12 Days of Princesses: Day 4: Tiana's Resolutions

Tiana is a super hard worker, so she sets lots of goals for herself! "What are some of your goals for the new year?" she asks.

This is a recommendation game! Comment with at least 3 cartoons/comics/anime/manga/games you love and why others should give them a try, so everyone can make it their New Years resolution to try something new! Please list a little about each, rather than just titles. Your original comment is all that's required to get prizes, but don't be afraid to reply to others and start a discussion!

Prize: 2 puzzle cards and a retro ticket

CLOSED! (Although you're still welcome to chat if you like~)

Oh, my god. There are so many recommendations here I want to second like burning, but hey, why not throw in some new ones?

I'm a video-game girl, so here goes.

(SNES/DS): Chrono Trigger - oldschool, but timeless. I'm tremendously fond of it because even though it's short by today's standards (after all, it was made for the SNES initially), it packs a lot of storyline and more importantly, character development. Every character you could put in your party has a backstory sidequest which fleshes them out beautifully, and on top of it all, it's a strikingly optimistic game. The DS version has additional sidequests and a bonus dungeon etc., but the one I played was the PSX port of the SNES version, and that's the one that stuck with me. Also, it's got fantastic music.

PC: Monkey Island Series - with the exception of the fourth, which was really only passable, the entire series has fantastic humour and witty remarks while still testing your lateral thinking skills. It's a little bit puzzley and a little bit sideways thinking - you know, if you like the whole looking at things a different way part of Ace Attorney, it's got that element as well. The characters are wacky and the dialogue's entertaining; I often found myself making deliberate mistakes just to see characters react. (Plus, how can you say no to insult swordfighting?!)

PC: Bastion - more action/adventure, but it's a singularly beautiful game, with stunning narratives and gorgeous art. Play it for the eye-candy and the voice-candy, if absolutely nothing else. Bastion is pure art.

Yeah, I think Bastion might be one of those games that's smoother on the controller. I have trouble with it these days because my keyboard's kind of screwed up . :( But I think it might just be generally smoother on a controller, since it's so action-oriented.
