Update 01

Hello everyone, this is Reine, your head mod. I hope you're all anticipating the opening as much as I am. (For those whose member cards I have not handed out yet, I'll get to them tonight when I'm in the proper venue.)

As previously stated, Deck Donations are already open. Graphic Donations are also open now for anyone who wants to contribute! We're in dire need of your graphics, so don't be shy.

Now, for today, I would like to ask everyone for their input. Someone approached me previously about including comics in the mediums for the TCG. Now, I'm a fan of a few comics myself, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on whether or not we should add them. What do you think?

For my own thoughts: I'm game for a yay or a nay. Note that if comics would be allowed, there would of course be limitations. For example, we won't have 239182 Batman decks if they're all Bruce Wayne. It'll be limited by character, not by the many different appearances he has.

Edit: Note, by comics I mean characters from a comic/graphic novel medium to be made into character decks. These will be slated in Single Decks like the rest, so it applies the same rules.

For your contribution, feel free to grab two cards here under Regular Cards and let me know which ones you took.

Honestly, I guess it'd depend. Are you thinking characters from comics (like a broad deck featuring the different varieties of someone like Batman or Superman) or decks featuring panels from comic strips or comic books?

I guess, if you went with comics, perhaps maybe what suggestions that they were mentioning might help? Like, are we talking superheroes like the Justice League (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc) or graphic novels (American, Japanese, etc)?

Taking cybernetic12, rivals13, thanks!

Since we already have animated adaptations of some comics, I don't see why not as long as there's a solid number of people interested and that it's kept controlled as you mentioned. I probably won't be collecting these decks myself, but I wouldn't mind for them to be introduced!

Grabbing phantom08 and agility09, thanks!

I would definitely go for a yay! Just because I actually like the comics more than the tv animated adaptations. :3 Plus since you already have part of the series (X-men but in animated form), I don't see why not to the comics. *~*b

Taking accuracy12 and capricorn03, thanks!

I agree with the above that it seems a bit silly to allow cartoon adaptations but not the original comics themselves, so I don't see why not. I probably wouldn't collect them myself since I'm not big into Western comics, but if other people would be interested I think it's fine.

Grabbing castor01 and miko01, thanks!

I agree with Chrissy! If there is a good number of players interested, I don't see why not! Given that I don't think there are many (or any, actually) TCG where you can collect comic-related decks, I say it's a good opportunity to attract players who are interested in that type of media (:

got forbidden10 and foxmask04~

Yeah, agreeing with what everyone else has said! I don't really know comics either, but I suppose that if you already have their animated versions (I think Teen Titans has its own comic for example?) than it seems fine to include them too? You also branch out the appeal of the tcg too and attract members that wouldn't have joined otherwise~ Going to grab sky05, bancho05, thank you!

I'd go with yay! Why not? It's always fun to have more kinds of characters and decks to collect and I'd love to collect an Iron Man deck hurrr

Grabbing Utility 11 and Right 02!

I'm all for it, though I've really read comics much, I do love a lot of DC and Marvel animations so.

taking bancho06, navigator11

I'd love comic character decks, but I wouldn't be disappointed if they weren't added or anything. Would it just be superhero comics, or would other stuff be allowed (e.g. Scott Pilgrim, Fables, etc.)?

Taking sea15, shadowcat10, thanks!
admiral: rise kujikawa → persona 4 (lemme lay down the law on yo ass)

Okay, cool! Thanks for offering to include comic decks, that plus the fact you have western cartoon decks too is what ultimately made my decision to join the tcg, haha.

Sorry for butting in but it just occurred me when you mentioned webcomics; but what about the ones that actually have published books through Kickstarter or whatever :o?

Curiosity compels me to ask, does this mean Homestuck decks could be possible? Being a webcomic that has a couple books published so far?

[personal profile] panchromatism 2012-12-12 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I would say yes to that.

I would say yes, as long as we figure out how to solve all those iffy continuity issues. And yes because Scott Pilgrim, Fables and Runaways.

Taking witness06, prosecutor10

[personal profile] orophias 2012-12-11 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Would that count for animated series too?

Like what if someone wanted a 90s Batman deck, a Brave & the Bold deck and a Justice League deck?

[personal profile] panchromatism 2012-12-14 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry for taking a while to return to this.

I would have to say no. The rule is only applicable comics mostly because it came after the game has already been established to avoid the 282398 continuities that some of them possess. It wasn't something included in the original rules because for mediums like manga, there are about a hundred different types of Date Masamune, but they're all still technically different people. This was included as a consideration in comics because while there are various authors and artists for the same character (Batman comes to mind), they all more or less follow the same timeline/revamp of said timeline/what-if of said timeline if that makes sense.

Basically the overall story still falls in one niche for the comics, while in cartoons it's pretty much the reign of whoever producer is handling that particular series. Hence why it was added.

I hope that makes sense.

I'm not personally crazy over comics, so it won't really affect me one way or the other. But if there's enough interest, I don't see what it would hurt.

Taking brave01, jump13.

To second everyone else here, I don't see why not. I personally probably wouldn't collect them, since I'm not that familiar with western comics. But I really don't see any reason not to include them.

Grabbing agility09 and strawhat10, thanks~
